Skipped Eden United Church and Our Lady of Mount Carmel all-candidate forums

PC candidate a serial no-show at debates

Mississauga-Streetsville Conservative Candidate Wafik Sunbaty skipped another two all-candidates debates, declining to attend an all-candidates forum Monday evening at Eden United Church, and confirming but not showing up for an all-candidates forum Tuesday afternoon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School.

Sunbaty’s decision not to attend was noted before the debate attendees at Eden United Monday evening by moderator, Ward 9 Councillor Pat Saito. Mount Carmel teacher Marion Kupper told the roughly 150 students attending the debate at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School Tuesday afternoon that Sunbaty had confirmed his attendance, but did not show up, with no explanation.

Bob at Mount Carmel debate: September 25
Bob Delaney speaking before the students at the all-candidates debate at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School on September 25th, 2011.

“The residents of Lisgar, Meadowvale and Streetsville deserve better than to be ignored by an absentee Conservative candidate who has hid behind the Tory central campaign all year,” said incumbent MPP and Mississauga-Streetsville Liberal candidate Bob Delaney, seeking his third term in the Ontario Legislature.

“The Tory comic book platform, with its gigantic $14 billion funding hole has to be discussed publicly. The PC candidate has been a serial no-show both before and during the campaign. As a Liberal, I want to stand him up publicly, and show just how empty the Tory platform is. We need to contrast Conservative neglect with my own track record of doing what I pledge to do in Lisgar, Meadowvale and Streetsville. Our party, in government, has steered Ontarians through the worst recession since the great depression of the 1930s. We have an innovative path to the future in our platform, and in such landmark accomplishments as the Green Energy Act and tax reform that have brought the Province its first-ever, made-in-Ontario recovery. Hudak is offering a path of cuts, confrontation and chaos back to the past. My Conservative opponent won’t even come out to defend or discuss any part of their inconsistent, nonsensical platform,” Delaney said.

Bob's message to Conservatives

“I urge Conservatives in our community to opt for my personal strong track record of doing what I say I will do in education, in building our hospital, in improving public transit, and in being part of a government that will get us back to a balanced budget.

We need to continue to reach out to the world, and bring out the best in the people who live, learn and work in Lisgar, Meadowvale and Streetsville. When everything is said and done in the election, when the leaders and parties have gone to run the province or rebuild, and when you’ve tossed the pamphlets in the recycle bin, government is still about the person who’s going to work hard for you, show up, and pay attention to your needs from day to day.”
