Promises kept, Delaney says to kick off campaign
Keeping your promises and doing your homework are the keys to success in public life, said Mississauga-Streetsville Member of Provincial Parliament as he kicked off his re-election campaign at the Mississauga-Streetsville Campaign Office on Queen Street in Streetsville.
"We have made and kept ambitious commitments to the people of Lisgar, Meadowvale and Streetsville in 2003 and 2007," Delaney said, "and we will do so again this year.
"We said in 2003 that we could ease Meadowvale rush-hour traffic with a new GO Train Station at Lisgar, and kept that promise ahead of schedule and within budget. We said in 2003 that we could expand Credit Valley Hospital with Phase II, and kept that promise. Phase II added 100 new beds, doubled the beds in the maternity suite and added complex continuing care. It opened ahead of schedule and within budget this spring. We said in 2003 that we could make it easier for those trained and experienced abroad to convert their professional qualifications and expertise to their Canadian equivalents. We kept that promise with the Fair Access to Regulated Professions Act in 2006. We said in 2003 that we could expand capacity on the Milton Line GO trains, and today they carry 40 percent more passengers than they did in 2003. All our stations have been upgraded and two new tracks for all-day, two-way GO train service are on CP’s and GO’s capital plans, and the preliminary pre-construction studies are underway.
"We did everything we said we would do in 2003," he said.
"We said in 2007 that we could expand Erinoak Kids to better provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services to children with disabilities and their families. The Province announced three new state-of-the- art centres in Mississauga, Brampton and Oakville in May to keep that promise. We said in 2007 that we could get approval for a Phase III expansion of Credit Valley Hospital to build new off-site surgery facilities, and we will deliver on that commitment this summer," Delaney said.
"In the next four years, we will improve access from our major north-south roads in western Mississauga to Highway 403 to reduce congestion and improve safety," Delaney said. "Working together, we will go forward and make life better for families who live in Lisgar, Meadowvale and Streetsville. We will continue to do everything we say we will do."
Bob Delaney was first elected in 2003, and has served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Revenue since 2010. He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was a web developer and taught in the School of Business Studies at Ryerson University prior to his election.
In 2003, Delaney won the election with 52 percent of the vote in the former Mississauga West riding, which encompassed much of his present riding plus the neighbourhoods of Churchill Meadows and western Erin Mills. In 2007, he won in Mississauga-Streetsville with 53 percent of the popular vote.
"Ontario is on the right track as we emerge from the global recession," he said. "While the USA and Europe struggle to recover jobs, Ontario’s employment levels are now back above their pre-recession levels. Clean energy firms are coming to Mississauga to create jobs and build a world-class, export-oriented green energy industry.
"With a well-executed plan to renew Ontario’s infrastructure, and the overhaul of Ontario’s tax system, our Province is now the single most competitive place to start a business, run a business and re-locate a business in North America. Expansion of colleges and universities also means that western Mississauga youth can train for a leading edge career, and work in the field of their dreams close to home."
